VR Round Up 29.09.13

*Flight *Shots In Dam *Amsterdam Canals
*Dog Sitting *Go Ape *Cupcake

+ Amsterdam - Returned from Amsterdam on Friday feeling like I hadn't slept in 5 days and some serious detoxing was required. However, I know that feeling was well earned and well worth it. I'll be putting up some snapshots from my time there as well as an outfit overview but thought I'd say now - if you are looking for a city break then Amsterdam really is the place to be. It's not the cheapest of cities but it's beautiful, breathtaking and a hell of alot of fun! Looking for somewhere to stay? We headed to St Christopher's and for me, it rates in the Top 3 hostels I've ever stayed in - great people, perfect location and good food!

+ Go Ape - I never thought I was the clambering up, jumping between and throwing myself off treetops kind of girl but after taking the leap (literally) in to the scary but adrenaline pumping Go Ape course...I realised I was sorely mistaken! I'll admit the first 'Tarzan Swing' was scary as hell but once I'd taken that initial leap of faith, I realised what fun and challenges there were to be had and as soon as I got down, I just wanted to climb straight back up again.
Warning: Not for the faint hearted or those seriously afraid of heights.

+ Travel Bug - Returned from my epic trip to Amsterdam and within 24 hours I had already booked to go away again. This time I'm off to Switzerland around Christmas with my two brothers and so the holiday countdown begins...

VR Round Up 22.09.13

*Skort Bandwagon *No Bowl, No Milk *48 Hour Belly Pork *Apple Tart
*Welcoming Freshers *Balcony Tartan *Our Cow Molly Cart *Breakfast

+ Non Stop - I don't think I've ever had such a crazy week - with a brand new restaurant opening at work, all the students returning to Sheffield for freshers and a trip to Amsterdam to plan/pack for I literally don't remember the last time I slept more than a couple hours or cooked a meal, sat down and took a breather. However, this does mean that for once I am not dreading the four hour coach to London tonight (fingers crossed for some peace and quiet)!

+ Hush Hush - It's all going to go a bit quiet on the blog front next week as I am off to Amsterdam tomorrow for five days but fear not, I will return shortly (hopefully in one piece) with lots of exciting holiday updates!

VR Round Up 15.09.13

*Apple Upgrade *Tartan Me *Hong Kong Chocolate *5am Shift *School Games *Working It
*Cath Kidston *Thorntons Butterfly *Dolled Up *Pitcher *Saturday Night *Me & Nic

Sainsbury's School Games - I was lucky enough to get in on some of the action of the Sainsbury School Games this week (well, sort of!). I work on site at one of the student villages and it played host to all the athletes competing. The 5am start on Thursday for my shift was not the most enjoyable of experiences. However, the atmosphere was buzzing and whilst the 25 minute walk there was a bit creepy, it was amazing to see a usually bustling city so quiet.

Cutting It Fine - A week tomorrow I head off to Amsterdam and I am really cutting it fine with getting everything in order. Next week I am working a seven day week (MADNESS) and with my flat move fast approaching, I literally won't have a second to myself let alone time to prepare before I hop on my coach to London on Sunday night and board the plane on Monday...might just have to wing it this time! I did pop to Superdrug this weekend and nab some minis though. Is it just me who finds mini toiletries so damn cute?

Tartan Storm

If you hadn't realised that tartan is making it's mark as a key trend this autumn then seriously where have you been hiding?

I've not a massive amount to say about the trend except from the fact that it's versatility means I'd be happy for it to be printed on pretty much everything I own. I'm especially liking the green and blue colourway and you really can't go wrong with the classic red.

Below are just a few of my favourite items floating about on the high street and hopefully making their way to me in the near future!

Will you be wearing tartan this autumn?

VR Round Up 08.09.13

*TBT 2011 *Victoria Quarter *Monochrome Clutch
*Autumn Boots *La Tasca *Tartan Selfie

+ Poorly - I'd say a good 90% of my week (ok slight over exaggeration) was spent in bed with a virus...it was entirely rubbish aside that it gave me an excuse to purchase Glamour, Cosmo and the rest and indulge in far too much hot chocolate! With lots of rest and a fair few trips to the chemist I am feeling on the mend but sadly won't be heading out on the town this weekend!

+ Leeds - Spent Saturday in Leeds visiting a good friend from University for a good ol' catch up. Two key things were learnt from my day out: 1. You can never have too much tapas (Thank you La Tasca I am now hooked. The sangria didn't go a miss either!) and 2. Leeds has bloody good shopping (we actually shopped until we dropped and don't get me started on how beautiful the Victoria Quarter is...a girl can dream eh!)

Horse Shoe Home

My boyfriend and I are moving flat at the end of the month and thinking of ways to make it homely, fashionable, fun and functional combined is just plain daunting. If you then add to the mix that my moving day has been scheduled for when I'm in Amsterdam, you'd understand why I am currently running around like a headless chicken try to get everything done.

Luckily for me, having a boyfriend who is a furniture designer and sells on Etsy in his spare time (winner!) doesn't go a miss in the moving and decorating department.

I haven't really posted anything about Ed on here so I thought it was time to give you a sneak peek of his latest creation, the simple but effective - Horse Shoe Hooks (I've already nabbed 4 for hanging various things in my our kitchen).

I really love the idea of reusing something for an entirely different purpose and the fact the Horse Shoe is associated with good luck just adds to its appeal.

Check them out on Etsy for yourself here!

August Picks

1. After finally braving a way over due haircut, I decided I needed to invest in a few products to keep my hair at its healthiest. I picked up the Wella Reflections Oil from the salon I visited for about £14.50 (you can get it cheaper online) after the stylist used it on my hair. I've always been a bit apprehensive about using oils but this product has really proved me wrong - it's lightweight and great for multi use. I've been using this oil on wet hair for added softness but you can also use it for added heat protection and sleek styling. The only downfall is that it's in a glass bottle which gets me a bit nervous when using it in the shower.

2. If you're looking for something which saves you time and frankly, is quite fun (just me?) then you definitely want to get your mitts on Vaseline's Spray & Go. This light but great smelling moisturiser is something I've been using when I'm in a rush or just being plain lazy. I picked it up for about £4.99 from Boots and would definitely recommend.
